Rõõm on teada anda, et 2023 aasta hooaja üheks põnevaks uudistaimeks on Tomtato taimed.

Tegemist on maakeeli kartultomati taimedega ehk kartuli külge on poogitud tomati taim. Nõndaviisi saad ühelt taimelt saagiks nii tomateid kui kartuleid.

Poogitud tomatitaimed on Beekenkamp Plants toodang ja ka nimi Tomtato tuleb sellelt ettevõttelt. Peale aastatepikkust uurimustööd ja mitmeid katsetusi hiljem õnnestus neil 2015 aastal Taanis tuua müügile esimesed Tomtato taimed.

Tomtato taim kasvatab varre külge magusad punased kirsstomatid ning hooaja lõpus on taime potis valminud maitsvad kollased kartulid. Beekenkampi tutvustav video Tomtato taimede kohta on leitav siit: https://youtu.be/E-Pq1Mi4Hxw .

Võib tulla üllatusena, kuid selline lahendus, kus tomat on poogitud edukalt kartuli peale, ei ole siinmail tegelikult uudis vaid unustatud vana.

Esimesed märked kartultomati kohta on leitavad juba ühes Eesti 1930. aasta nädalalehest, kus kirjutatakse nii:

Kas on kellelgi juba olnud juhust näha kartulipealseid, mille küljes kasvavad tomatid? Teati küll, et varrepookimine kartuli ja tomati vahel on võimalik, aga kahesuguse viljaga taimi ikkagi kasvatada ei õnnestunud. Selle põhjuseks oli asjaolu, et tomati taime kartulipealse külge pookimine on küll võimalik, aga raskelt läbiviidav.

Sama kirjatüki lõpus kirjutab loo autor oma kogemusest nii:

Juuni algul istutatakse taimed välja ja varsti võidakse näha, et kartulitele kasvavad tomatid külge. Kartulitomatite lõhn ei erine millegi poolest puhtaist tomatitest.

Mööduvad veel mõned aastad ning 1940. aasta 7. juunil mainib Postimees loos “Tubakas, kartul, tomat ühes taimes” nii:

Nõukogude Liidu põllumajanduslikul näitusel on wälja pandud noor-naturalistide poolt peale muu ka tubakas, mis kaswatab alla kartuleid ja otsa tomateid.

Nagu teada, on tubakas, kartul ja tomat ühte sugukonda kuuluwad taimed. Kultuurtaimedena nad aga on spetsialiseerunud üks lehtede, teine mugulate ja kolmas wiljade tootmiseks. Silmumisega on siin koondatud kõik kolm kasulikku osa ühte taime: mugulad kartuliks, lehed tubakaks ja nupud tomatis.

Tol ajal oli tegemist pigem katsetustega ja suures mahus müüki selliseid poogitud taimi ei tulnudki. Nüüd saab aga iga aiandushuviline teha Tomtato taimega proovi.

Sel aastal tellime Tomatato taimi piiratud koguses. Kui soovid kindlalt kartultomati kasvatamise ära proovida, siis on võimalik eeltellida saates info soovi kohta: gregeronest@gmail.com .

Kartultomati kasvatamine.


Tomtato taim istutatakse peale öökülma ohu mõõdumist 20-40L suurusesse potti või vähemalt sama suure mahuga peenrasse. Kasvatatakse terrassil, rõdul või kasvuhoones.

Kindlasti tuleb taim toestada, et vältida varre murdumist. Kartultomat peab vasu ühe hooaja. Suurema saagi saad, kui väetad taimi regulaarselt kastmisväetisega. Kui peaksid ilmuma kartuli võsud, siis tuleks need eemaldada.

Kui septembrikuus taim enam uusi tomateid ei anna, siis lõigatakse taime vars umbes 10 cm kõrguselt maha ja lastakse kartulitel veel kasvada. Kümne päeva pärast võid kartulid üles võtta.

Kust saab kartultomatit osta?

Tomtato taimed saab nüüd igaüks ise välja valida ja osta Saaremaa suurimast ja vanimast suvelilleaiandist ehk Sikassaare Aiandist, mis asub Voolu 6 Kuressaare. Samal ajal võib juurde valida kauneid suvelilli ja erinevaid köögiviljataimi. Edaspidi saab sealt samast osta ka teise põnevaid Gregeroni taimeka taimi.

Kartultomat näitab juba viljakobaraid ning sätib end peatselt sisse uues kodus mõne aiandushuvilise kasvuhoones või terrassil 🙂
